and understand what need not be kept.

Putting Archives on the Web: Everyone is doing it, so what is the big deal and why
isn't it done already?
What happens when the irresistible force meets an
immovable object? In archives too often the answer is
nothing. How can archives reconcile the enticing
possibility of reaching a far greater audience of new
and traditional users, with the realities of not having
the capacity to meet the internet’s need for precise
description and the service demands that result from
people knowing what you have? Facilitator: Fred Farrell,
Manager, Private Sector Records, Photographs and Oral
History, Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, N.B., and
Member of the Board of Directors, CCA
Pedagogical Resources Accessible Through Archives and Discovering Useful Tools for Research
This round table will provide discussion ideas that link professionals involved with maintaining our history with students into common research projects. Ideas include artifact digging in backyards, examining family albums, looking at community photographs and local maps - these archival items bring the excitement of the past into education. Facilitator: Rose Fine-Meyer, Doctoral Candidate, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto and Recipient of a Governor General Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History
Analogue and Digital Media Preservation

of environmental influences. Learn best practices for
the preservation of your audio, video, and film

The purpose of this roundtable is to discuss the
different specificities of Aboriginal archives in terms
of acquisition, description, access and preservation.

Preservation of Photograpy
(Bilingual) We all take photos; we all keep photos. We have photos coming out of our drawers and shoeboxes and ears. Often unidentified photos, even when they've been put in an album -- "All of us, last Sunday" doesn't really say much. You had to have been there. What photography should we be preserving and how should we go about doing it? This roundtable takes the point of view of an archivist: what do archivist collect, and why, and how do they identify it and then take care of it? Maybe some of the answers from the archival world will have an application with your own photographs or with those of the institution you work for.
Facilitator: Andrew Rodger, Photo Archivist, Art and Photography, Library and Archives Canada
